The skills of the priest
The skills of a Priest can be found in the category Discipline, Holy or Shadow. Both the Holy and the Discipline category contain several spells for healing or preventing damage to group or raid-members. Several Discipline skills can be learned via talents, namely Inner Focus, Power Infusion, Pain suppression and Penance. The Inner Focus skill allows your next spell to be free of mana cost while having an increased chance to be a critical strike. Power Infusion can be cast on the Priest or on any other group or raid member. It increases their casting speed by 20%, so this skill can be used to increase a player's damage output. The Pain Suppression skill is mostly used on a tanking player. It reduces their incoming damage by 40%, greatly increasing the survival chance against hard attacks. The downside is, however, that it reduces the target's threat by 5%. Penance is a multi purpose spell. When used on a friendly target it will heal them in rapid bursts, when used on an enemy it will deal damage.
Holy Priests only have three active skills learned from talents, and one of them is often neglected. Lightwell places a holy well of light on the ground that can be clicked by group and raid members in order to receive a heal over time effect. While this is a powerful heal it is slightly complicated to fully make use of this skill, often leading to Holy Priests not taking this skill. Circle of Healing is an area of effect healing skill, perfect for healing raid or group damage. Guardian Spirit is another tank safer skill, that is able to prevent a killing blow on the affected player.
The Shadow skills are centered around dealing damage, greatly altering the way the priest plays. The Silence skill can be learned via talents and makes the target unable to cast spells for 5 seconds. The Vampiric Embrace skill allows the Shadow Priest too heal himself while dealing damage. Shadowform is an skill that every Shadow Priest will learn and keep active most of the time. It is the defining Shadow Priest skill. The Vampiric Touch skill allows the Shadow Priest to restore mana to his group or raid, while the Dispersion skill restores mana to the Shadow Priest himself.
