Similar to any other class the new class with Wrath of the Lich King, the Death Knight, receives several new skills from his talent trees. The Blood talent tree allows the Death Knight to train the new skills Mark of Blood, Hysteria, Vampiric Blood, Heart Strike and Dancing Rune Weapon. Mark of Blood allows the Death Knight to mark an enemy, causing that enemy to heal its current target whenever it hits. The Hysteria skill allows the Death Knight to buff a group or raid member, increasing their physical damage by 20% while causing them to lose 1% of their health per second. Vampiric Blood is a tanking skill, increasing the Death Knight's health for a short amount of time. Like every talent tree the Blood tree has a special attack skill, Heart Strike. The Dancing Rune Weapon skill summons an additional weapon that fights alongside the Death Knight for a short amount of time.

Frost Death Knights are able to turn into an undead for ten seconds with the Lichborne skill. Deathchill gives them a guaranteed critical hit with any of their frost skill. The Hungering Cold skill allows the Death Knight to control large groups of enemies while Unbreakable Armor allows the Death Knight to sustain large amounts of physical damage for a short amount of time. Frost Strike is the typical attack skill in the Frost talent tree. The Howling Blast skill is an instant attack that deals damage to every enemy in the vicinity.

The skills gained from the Unholy talent tree are Corpse Explosion, Ghoul Frenzy, Anti-Magic Zone, Bone Shield, Scourge Strike and Summon Gargoyle. As the name already implies the Corpse Explosion skill causes a corpse to explode for shadow damage. Ghoul Frenzy buffs the Death Knight's companion, greatly increasing the damage it deals. The Anti-Magic Zone skill increases the effect from Anti-Magic Shell, reducing spell damage taken by 75%. Bone Shield is the defensive skill in the Unholy tree. It surrounds the Death Knight with 4 bones, reducing incoming damage by 20% as long as the bones are active. The Unholy attack skill is Scourge Strike. A second companion for the Unholy Death Knight can be summoned with the Summon Gargoyle skill. This companion stays for 30 seconds and attacks te Death Knight's enemies with nature attacks.
